Meet Marios Anagnostopoulos – New assistant professor in cyber security

The department of Electronic Systems welcomes Marios Anagnostopoulos as new member of the Communication, Media and Information Technologies section.

Marios Anagnostopoulos has joined the Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University as assistant professor in the Communication, Media and Information Technologies section located at Aalborg University Copenhagen.

He received his Master’s degree in Information and Communication Systems Security from the University of the Aegean, Greece.

Furthermore, Marios Anagnostopoulos holds a PhD degree in Information and Communication Systems Engineering, also from the University of the Aegean. After that, he has worked as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow within cyber security at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) .

Describe your area and research interests:

My research interests are in the area of network and computer security. My primary research goals are toward understanding the ways network protocols and attackers, for launching Denial of Service attacks and coordinating botnets, can exploit systems. These two types of cyber security incidents can threaten the availability of online resources on the internet. My work is mostly concerned with the offensive security.

By joining AAU, my ambition is to continue in this line of research towards investigating more thoroughly possible vulnerabilities of network protocols. This way, I can contribute to identify the required security countermeasures and strengthen the resilience of computer systems and network infrastructures.

Which projects are you going to work on?

The main benefit of my new position is that I have the opportunity to do what always enjoying me to do, and this is to teach and conduct research within the field of cyber security.

My current duties involve teaching in the Cyber Security Master’s program, and working in the SecDNS research project.  As time pass, I will be involved more actively in activities regarding teaching cyber security related courses in bachelor’s and master’s programs, supervision of master and doctoral students, and research activities.

Why did you choose a career at Aalborg University?

I choose Aalborg University because it has a rising and aspiring group of researchers within the field of cyber security. I look forward working with reputable and prestigious researchers and be involved with teaching related to my research interests in cyber security. Aalborg University is also known for its prominent teaching methods, which I am happy to be a part of.

Furthermore, I love Copenhagen – it is such a friendly city with friendly people.
