The Navigation and Communications section (NavCom), Department of Electronic Systems, focuses its research and teaching activities in the fields of Communication Theory and Coding, Signal Processing for Communications, Positioning, Radar Tracking and Aeronomy.
The major research objective of the section is to conduct scientific investigations targeted at the development of novel, efficient algorithms and methods in wired and wireless communications, satellite-based positioning and radar. The section conducts application-inspired basic research, a methodology that draws upon the following three scientific stages: definition of fundamental problems by abstraction from concrete, specific, open problems; development of new appropriate mathematical frameworks and concepts which lead to solutions of the fundamental problems; application of the gathered insight and solutions to solve the specific, concrete problems.
